Panel: Globalization and labour rights (27.01.03)
Globalization and labour rights
One feature of the globalization process has been that northern corporations move their production into development countries. There, production costs are cheaper because wages are lower and regulations for the protection of workers are often nonexistent. In particular the textile industry has many examples of child labor, hunger wages and union bans. In the discussion, activists and affected workers exposed the the situation in the Nike subcontractor factories, particularly in South East Asia.
