Panel: Corporate PR strategies  (24.01.03)
Panel: Corporate PR strategies
Irene Khan, Generalsekretärin Amnesty International, Grossbritannien
Resistance to the neoliberal project of corporations and the one-sided economic globalization they promote is growing. Transnational corporations invest in expensive image campaigns, so-called “greenwashing”, to divert public interest from their dubious social and environmental achievements. So for instance oil companies advertise their (presumed) ecological conscience, and thereby obscure their contribution to global warming. The WEF also offers a welcome PR platform to its members. Under the WEF motto “Committed to improving the state of the world”, corporations present themselves as concerned and problem solving enterprises.
