"The Public Eye on Davos" is an international event held over several days at the end of January at the same time as the WEF annual meeting in Davos. This alternative to the WEF is the joint project of a coalition of NGOs from all the continents. It focuses on a well-grounded critique of the neoliberal globalization influentially promoted by WEF members – the biggest multinational corporations. Faced with the massive social and environmental impacts of this one-sided economic globalization, the Public Eye promotes a globalization of justice and environmental sustainability. The globalisation project of international business is countered with viable alternatives that have arisen from civil society.

"The Public Eye on Davos", with its critique of neoliberal globalization and its belief that a different, more just world is possible, is strongly connected to the World Social Forum’s (WSF) principles. The WSF is the civil society alternative to the WEF and took place for the first time in 2001, in Porto Alegre, Brazil.

The Berne Declaration, an NGO campaigning on development issues based in Zurich and Lausanne, Switzerland, coordinates "The Public Eye on Davos". The Berne Declaration is supported by 19 000 members and campaigns since 1968 at the national and international level for more just and environmentally sustainable North – South relations in politics, economics, culture and food.
