The use of paraquat is regulated in different ways. Several countries have banned or restricted the distribution and use of paraquat at the national level. A list of all known bans and restrictions could be found under legal status.

Companies with the aim of supporting sustainable agriculture fulfil requirements (including the ban of paraquat) on a voluntary basis for receiving specific labels. A list of this labels could be found under voluntary standards.

And there are several international organisations which gives recommendations for the use of pesticides, which should have an impact on the use of paraquat (see international standards).
